The History of Sadie’s Consignment & Resale
In 1998, a Metroport Meals On Wheels transformed a plain vanilla building on Oak Street into an inviting boutique offering quality new and used merchandise. The boutique was named after MMOW’s first participant, Sadie England, and was originally called Sadie’s Dry Goods, New and Used.
Sadie’s popularity grew quickly and before long they added Sadie’s Attic in the building next door. Both operations continued to grow and it soon became apparent that they both needed larger spaces.
In 2001, MMOW purchased a building at the corner of Denton Street and U.S. 377 allowing the organization to combine both Sadie’s locations and the offices of MMOW. The new home, which is still in use today, gave Sadie’s the space and opportunity to expand into consigned items. They became known for providing quality furniture, household accessories and women’s fashions at a good price. Sadie’s Dry Goods was renamed Sadie’s Upscale Consignment and Resale in 2008.
Today, proceeds from Sadie’s Upscale Consignment and Resale provide approximately one-third of our funding.
